Head of the Chechen administration Akhmad Kadyrov escaped from an assassination attempt Thursday evening when a powerful bomb blew up 20 meters away from the first car of his motorcade, reports from the Chechen capital Grozny said Friday, January 5.

The press service of the Chechen administration was quoted as saying that the explosion took place on the road between Bachi- Yurt and Kadyrov's home village of Tsentoroi. No one was hurt in the incident.

Kadyrov's guard ordered to stop the motorcade after noticing a suspicious pile of stones on the roadside and an explosion followed immediately.

According to preliminary reports, the blast was equivalent to 2 kg. of TNT.

Special force officers from the Federal Security Service, who were escorting Kadyrov, immediately cordoned off the area and exchanged fire with two gunmen, who shot the guards from their hiding place, the press service said.
