Beijing High-tech Area Attracts US$145m in Investment

Contracts worth a total of 1.2 billion yuan (US$145 million) were signed in Beijing, involving six local and overseas-funded enterprises in the Economic and Technological Development Zone.

The six projects include a bio-photon research center and a computer hardware research, development and production base.

The annual production value of the projects, which covers some 210,000 square meters, is expected to reach 3.2 billion yuan (US$0.39 billion).

Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone, covering an area of 42 square kilometers, assembles a large number of foreign-invested firms.

As of November 2000, 782 enterprises with a total investment of US$2.7 billion have settled in the zone. Of these enterprises, 25 are among the world's top 500.
