Chinese Vice President Leaves for Five-Country Tour
Chinese Vice President Hu Jintao left Beijing Friday (Jan. 5) morning to make official visits to Iran, Syria, Jordan, Cyprus and Uganda.

He was invited by Iranian Vice President Hassan Habibi, Syrian Vice President Abdul Halim Khaddam, Jordanian Prime Minister Ali Abu Ragheb, Cypriot President Glafcos Clerides and the Ugandan government, respectively.

Among those seeing Hu off at the Great Hall of the People were Chinese Vice Premier Qian Qichen and the diplomats of the five countries.

Hu's entourage includes his wife Liu Yongqing, Vice Foreign Minister Ji Peiding, Deputy Director of the General Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Jiang Yikang, Vice Minister in charge of the State Development Planning Commission Wang Yang, Vice Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Sun Guangxiang, as well as Deputy Director of the Policy Research Office of CPC Central Committee He Yiting, Governor of the Export-Import Bank of China Yang Zilin.
