Dementieva Enters Semis at HK Women's Tennis Challenge

Up-and-rising Russian star Elena Dementieva handed a 6-2 and 6-4 defeat to American Lisa Raymond Thursday at 2001 Hong Kong women's tennis challenge.

The 19-year-old Russian overcame from two games down in the first set before taking the match 6-2 and 6-4 with her powerful and delicate base-line ground-strokes.

Dementieva, who won the silver medal in Sydney Olympics last year, will take on Australian Jelena Dokic, who won another singles match against American Chanda Rubin.

Doubles expert Rubin won the first set 6-3, but she retired because of an ankle injury happened in the first set before trailing at 4-1 in the second set.

In the day's doubles, Anna Kournikova paired with Lisa Raymond outclassed Chanda Rubin and Yi Jingqian from China 8-6.

The four-day invitational tournament will end on Saturday.
