Chinese Volleyballer Died of Heart Attack

Chinese volleyballer, Zhu Gang, collapsed during a practice and died of a heart attack after a 12-hour operation in vain in Mianyang, Sichuan province, on Thursday.

Zhu, 30, a starter of the national team and serving for the Sichuan Fulan in the league, had been rushed to a local hospital after he felt pain on heart during a routine practice in Wednesday morning.

Doctors said Zhu died of heart veins tumour, a disease that had never been diagnosed on him before.

The 2.04-meter player had won two Asian Championships titles in 1997 and 1999, once the trophy at the Asian Cup in 1998, in the national team.

Zhu, who was married in 1999, led Sichuan Pulan to three domestic league championships from 1996-1999 and won the national championships for Sichuan at the Eighth National Games in 1998.
