Beijing Mayor Meets Murdoch

Liu Qi, mayor of Beijing, met Thursday with Keith Rupert Murdoch, chairman and chief executive officer of News Corporation.

During the meeting, Liu thanked News Corporation for its efforts to introduce China to the world. He said the Beijing government is willing to render more support to News Corporation in its business development in the Chinese capital.

Liu also briefed the guest on Beijing's efforts to bid for the 2008 Olympic Games. Liu said the most important issue now for Beijing is how to present to the world a comprehensive and true picture of Beijing. To that extent, he said he hoped News Corporation and its affiliated media will report objectively on Beijing's achievements in infrastructure construction and improvement of the environment.

Murdoch said he has been to Beijing almost every year in the past 15 years, and each time he notices significant changes in the city.

He said Beijing has impressed the world with its effective efforts in bidding for the 2008 Olympic Games, and wished Beijing success in the bid.
