China has noticed Pakistan's wish to join the "Shanghai Five" meeting, but its membership will have to be decided by the five countries through consultations, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhu Bangzao said Thursday, January 4.

Zhu made the remarks in response to a relevant question at the regular press conference,

He added that the sixth summit of the "Shanghai Five" nations will be held in May in Shanghai.

The "Shanghai Five" process, which involves China, Tajikistan, Russia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, was launched in Shanghai, China, in April 1996, when the heads of states from the five countries held their first summit meeting.
