Annan to Attend France-Africa Summit in Cameroon

UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan is scheduled to arrive in Cameroon on January 17 to attend the France-Africa Summit, a UN spokesman said Wednesday, January 3.

Stephane Dujarric, the UN spokesman, told a press conference here that Annan will deliver an address during the opening session of the summit, which is to be held in Yaounde, capital of Cameroon.

The summit is held every two years, alternately in France and Africa. Since 1996, the summits have also been open to non-French- speaking African countries.

Annan is expected to leave Cameroon on January 18, the spokesman said.
