US President Clinton Meets with Palestinian Leader Arafat
Palestinian President Yasser Arafat is expected to return Tuesday to the White House for further talks with US President Bill Clinton, a US official said.
"I expect they will meet again this evening," said the US official, offering no further details. Arafat had earlier left the White House after two hours of talks with Clinton without making any comment to reporters.
Arafat arrived here in the morning chill Tuesday. He shook hands with the official greeting party at the Andrews Air Force Base in suburban Washington, but did not talk to reporters.
Arafat was here to seek US clarifications on its proposal for the Middle East peace process.
Clinton Ends Meeting With ArafatUS President Bill Clinton and Palestinian President Yasser Arafat ended two hours of talks Tuesday, and there was no immediate sign of a breakthrough in Middle East peace talks.
Arafat walked out of the White House after two-hour talks with Clinton and climbed into his limousine without making remarks to reporters on the White House driveway.
The meeting was arranged by Clinton during a 45-minute telephone conversation with Arafat on Monday.
