US Soccer Selects 25 Players for Friendly Game against ChinaThe United States has selected 25 players for a friendly game against China on January 27 at Oakland, California.Included in the two-week training camp is 33-year-old midfielder John Harkes, a former national team's captain for 27 games until April 14, 1998, two months before the World Cup. Harkes, who has six goals in 90 international appearances, is with the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer. The United States is preparing for the final round of qualifying for the 2002 World Cup with its opener on February 28 against Mexico at Columbus, Ohio. For the friendly, US coach Bruce Arena decided not to recall any of his team's Europe-based players. After the China game, the Americans play another warmup against Colombia in Miami on February 3.
