Indian PM: Strategy Must Counter Globalization ChallengesIndian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee Tuesday said there is need for a national strategy to counter the challenges of globalization and seize the opportunities which should not be politicized for narrow, short- term gains."Our government will, of course, take necessary measures to protect national interests against unfair trade and investment practices from outside. "But it is high time that all sections of our industry, agriculture and services sector realize that, increasingly, these issues are being governed by a multilateral framework to which India is a signatory," he was quoted by the Press Trust of India as saying in the second part of his article to a newspaper "My Musings From Kumarakom-II." Vajpayee said this global framework has created challenges, opportunities and also obligations. "This new reality cannot be wished away by any party or government. It is our collective responsibility to devise a national strategy that effectively counters the challenges and seizes the opportunities of globalization. This is too important an issue for India's future economic development to be politicized for narrow, short-term gains," he said. |
