Tibet's Jokhang Temple Prays For Peace in the New Millennium

Some 100 lamas from the Jokhang Temple in Lhasa, capital of China's Tibet Autonomous Region, gathered in the Jokhang Temple Monday to pray for peace in the new millennium.

The major religious figures of Lhasa attended the prayer gathering.

"The first day of the new millennium has important signification to everybody and to the entire world, we hope both our country and the world will have a good beginning," said Nyima Cering, a young lama in the Jokhang Temple.

Regarded as one of the holy lands for Tibetan Buddhism, the Jokhang Temple has a history of over 1,300 years. The temple has been included in the world cultural heritage list.
