Explosions Rock Israeli Coastal Resort of Netanya, Injuring 25

At least three explosions, apparently from a car bomb, rocked Israeli coastal resort of Netanya Monday evening, injuring at least 25 people, Israel Radio reported.

One of the injured was in critical condition, the radio said.

The explosions took place at a bus stop at the junction of Herzl Street and Dizengoff Street in Netanya, a city 30 kilometers north of Tel Aviv.

The wounded have been evacuated to hospitals in Netanya and Petah Tikva near Tel Aviv. Witnesses said considerable property damage was inflicted by the explosion.

Police have sealed off the area and are conducting extensive searches for potential bombs and clearing up the area.

Israeli caretaker Prime Minister Ehud Barak is convening an urgent meeting of his security cabinet to discuss the security situation the country is facing.

This was the second explosion incident in Israel proper in five days. Last Thursday, 14 people were injured when two to three bombs exploded on a public bus in Tel Aviv.

Israeli targets have been bomb attacked periodically since the outbreak of the Palestinian-Israeli clashes on September 28, in which over 300 people have been killed and thousands others injured, mostly Palestinians.
