Construction of Haikou Railway Station Started

The construction of Haikou railway station, one of the most important projects along Yuehai (Guangdong - Hainan) passageway linking up China's inland with Hainan Island to cross the Qiongzhou Straits, has been launched on December 28 morning.

With a total investment of 60 million yuan, the station is put underway in two phases and to be completed by 2002, covering a floor space of 21,000 square meters.

Shaped in a gable style as houses of the inhabitants in Hainan and grayish blue in color, it fully expresses the tropical scenery in harmony with the local traditional culture. Overlooking the station, it looks like a trapezoid, totally different from those in China's inland regions.
