Polluting Enterprises in Shanxi Province Shut Down

The Shanxi provincial government closed down 331 polluting enterprises in this north China province before the arrival of the 21st century, in a bid to show its resolution to control pollution.

Of the nearly 10,000 local industrial enterprises under examination, 99 percent have reached the national emission standards, announced Du Wu'an, vice governor of Shanxi.

In 2000, the province initiated several pollution control measures to eliminate all forms of industrial pollution, as stipulated by the central government.
