PLA Troops Vow to Safeguard Security in Macao SAR
A senior officer of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Macao Garrison said Monday that the troops are determined to ensure the stability, prosperity and development of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).
Liu Yuejun, commander of the PLA Macao Garrison, made the remark after a flag-raising ceremony held Monday morning in the barracks. Many residents were present to watch the ceremony.
"We are very glad to greet the coming of the new year and new century together with the residents by way of raising the national flag," Liu said.
He noted that the PLA troops have got along well with the residents over the past year, though there was not too much direct contact among them.
"In the new year, we will strengthen overall army building to raise our capability of exercising defense responsibilities well," the senior officer said.
In addition, the troops will, if necessary, assist the Macao SAR government in handling natural disaster and social disorder, Liu Yuejun said.
