Stamps To Be Issued At Turn Of New CenturyThe first set of Chinese stamps marking the coming of the 21st century was issued prior to midnight of the last day of the 20th century in Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi province, home to the world's eighth wonder -- Emperor Qin Shihuang's terracotta warriors and horses. The last set of Chinese stamps of the 20th century -- China's Ancient Bells -- was also released at the same time by the State Post Bureau. Philatelists said that to issue two sets of stamps at the turn of a new century is unprecedented. The first set of stamps consists of five stamps, featuring the theme of "coming of the new century and the new millennium," and depicting the Chinese people greeting the new century with prosperity and progress. The second set of four stamps is devoted to four famous ancient bells to remind people of China's long and brilliant civilization.
