International Guests Hails New Year With Joy in China

Some 300 international tourists from the U.S., Japan, Sweden, England, Republic of Korea and other countries and regions gathered in suburban Nanjing to greet the new year by striking bells together with their Chinese hosts in Sunday evening.

They came to the Qixia (meaning home of rosy clouds) Temple earlier in the afternoon and waited to listen to the sound of the bells there.

The Qixia Temple has a history of over 1,500 years. Local residents believe that the new year jow of the temple will bring good luck to listeners in the new year eve.

When the jow announcing the coming of the New Year, people greeted each other with different languages and celebrated the New Year with fireworks and hails.

Also several hundred of foreigners joined local residents in Hangzhou to listen to new year jow in the Jingci (meaning clean and kindly) Temple, one of the most famous ones in China with over 1,000 years of history.
