Syria, EU Sign Agreement on Cultural Cooperation

Syria and the European Union (EU) signed an agreement on Saturday for funding a training program in a bid to preserve Syria's cultural heritage.

Under the new deal, the EU will provide 2 million euro (2.27 million U.S. dollars) to help train Syrian experts on archaeological restoration for three years.

The EU grant will help Syria's excavation activities and develop Syria's tourism industry and economy in general.

The deal was signed by Syria's Deputy Minister of State for Planning Affairs Tawfik Ismail and European Commission official in Damascus Alisio Kapilani.
