Chinese President Jiang Zemin and other Party and state leaders watched a Beijing Opera performance in Beijing Saturday evening.

The performance of excerpts from classic works of different schools of the traditional art was given by a number of the country's outstanding artists, at Zhongnanhai in the center of Beijing.

The evening party, held for the coming new year, attracted an audience of nearly 1,000 local residents.
