New Expressway Opens to Traffic in South China

A 112.7-kilometer-long expressway from Yizhou to Liuzhou in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region opened to traffic Saturday, December 30.

The expressway, an important part of Chongqing-Zhanjiang highway, was built at a total cost of 1.45 billion yuan.

The new expressway starts from Yizhou City in the west and end at Liuzhou City in the east and passes through Liucheng and Liujiang. It also links up with the Guilin-Beihai expressway.

Construction work on the expressway started in October 1998.

Authorities note that the expressway will greatly improve the transport conditions in the northwestern part of Guangxi.
