Kyrgyzstan President Reshuffles Cabinet

President of Kyrgyzstan Askar Akayev announced Saturday a major cabinet reshuffle, which included replacement of finance, transport, trade and industry and interior ministers.

Nibolai Tanayev, president of the governmental commission of architecture, was promoted to the post of the first Deputy Prime Minister, according to reports reaching to Alma Ata, from Bishkek, capital of Kyrgyzstan.

Temirbek Akmataliyev, governor of the southern state of Oshkaya, was nominated Minister of Finance.

Kubanychbek Zhumaliyev, governor of the state of Dzhalal-Abad and former prime minister, was appointed Minister of Transport.

Deputy minister of Trade and Industry Arzymat Sulaimankulov was promoted to head his ministry.

The Minister of National Security Tashtemir Aibayev was nominated Interior Minister.

The reshuffle followed Akayev's announcement of his government streamlining plan on Friday.

The plan cuts the number of government departments from 17 to 12. Now there is only one deputy prime minister, and each state and government department can retain no more than two deputies with the exception of the defense ministry and national security agencies.
