First Inter-Korean Economic Meeting EndsThe Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and South Korea ended in Pyongpang Saturday their first high-level meeting on economic cooperation.During the three-day meeting, both sides shared the views that economic cooperation and exchange between the north and the south is of weighty significance in promoting co-prosperity and common interests, and in developing each national economy in a balanced way by pooling efforts of the entire Korean nation. They agreed to positively push ahead with economic cooperation between the north and the south in various fields such as power industry, relinking of railways and roads, prevention of flood damage in the area along the Rimjin river, the construction of the Kaesong industrial zone. The two sides also discussed issues relating to the composition, operation, function and duties of the Inter-Korean Committee for Promoting Economic Cooperation and agreed to take practical measures to form relevant sub-committees at an early date. The delegation of South Korea, headed by Vice-Minister of Finance and Economy Ri Jong Jae, left here Saturday. |
