Jiang on Broadcasting WorkChinese President Jiang Zemin has urged the broadcasting industry, including the China National Radio (CNR), to do a good job in letting China better known to the outside world.Effort should be increased to "let the voices of the Party and the state cover every family in China and the voice of China reach every place in the world," according to Jiang, who is also general secretary of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC). Jiang made the remarks in his comment on the 60th anniversary of the Chinese people's broadcasting cause and the CNR. The CNR has made contributions to publicizing the Party's line, guiding principles and policies, carrying forward the spirit of the Chinese nation, patriotism, collectivism and socialism thoughts, and encouraging the broad masses to advance bravely, Jiang said. The president pointed out that broadcasting work is an important part of the Party's media. He extended cordial greetings to broadcasting worker nationwide. A grand gathering was held in Beijing Friday to mark the anniversary. Vice-Premier Li Lanqing and Ding Guangen, head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, were present at the gathering and also congratulated the broadcasting workers. Ding said the broadcast plays a very important role in China, a large country with more than 1.2 billion people, and this role is irreplaceable especially for those in remote rural areas. He urged the broadcasting industry to achieve new glory in the new century under the Party's leadership with Jiang Zemin at the core. |
