Afghan Opposition Captures Strategic Area

The Afghan Northern Alliance has claimed to have driven Taliban forces out of a strategic town in the central Bamyan province, killing at least two Taliban fighters and capturing 30 others, an opposition spokesman, Sayed Hussain Anwari, said in a statement reaching on Saturday.

The opposition forces on Friday launched an attack on Yakavlang City in Bamyan Province and were successful in repelling the occupying Taliban troops from the region, he said.

"At least two Taliban soldiers were killed in the fighting while 30 were captured," he said, adding that at the present time the city of Yakavlang is totally controlled by the alliance.
