Chartered Flight Between Japan, Macao Opens

Irregular chartered flight between Japan and the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China was launched Saturday, December 30.

Coming from the city of Nagasaki, a chartered plane carrying more than 170 Japanese passengers arrived at the Macao International Airport Saturday noon.

The tourists were warmly received by officials with the Tourist Office of the Macao SAR government. They will stay in Macao and Hong Kong for three days, and go back to Japan aboard the chartered plane.

Japan has been a major source of tourists to Macao, with some 132,000 Japanese making a tour here in the first 11 months of this year. However, there was no direct flight between Japan and Macao before.

Officials with the Macao Tourist Office said that four irregular chartered flights coming from Nagasaki and Fukuoka of Japan will be arranged in the coming month.

The officials also noted that regular flights will be launched in the near future to attract more Japanese tourists.
