Greece Condemns Terrorist Activities in Southern SerbiaGreece Friday condemned the terrorist activities in southern Serbia and called on the international community to help Yugoslavia in its effort to resolve the problem. In an announcement issued late Friday, the Greek foreign ministry described the ethnic Albanian extremists in southern Serbia as "a destabilizing factor" for the wider region at a time when hope for peace and development had been reborn. The foreign ministry expressed its grave concern over the deteriorating situation in southern Serbia, where tension has been mounting in the buffer zone since late last month when heavily armed ethnic Albanian extremists launched a series of attacks on Serbian police. The ministry condemned the terrorist activities by ethnic Albanian extremists in the region and hoped that the Yugoslav government's desire for the settlement of the issue would find a response and be supported by the international community. The ministry also stressed the need of coordinated mobilization by the international community for the fully implementation of the U. N. Security Council Resolution 1244, which forbids the cessation of Kosovo from Serbia. Yugoslavia has warned that unless the U.N. Security Council sets a deadline for the removal of the ethnic Albanian separatists from the buffer zone, which was set up last year to divide the troubled Yugoslav province of Kosovo and the rest of Serbia, Belgrade will solve the problem itself, respecting all internationally permitted measures in fighting terrorism.
