Ghana's Opposition Leads in Run-Off Presidential PollGhana's opposition candidate John Kufuor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken an early lead against his rival John Atta Mills of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the country's final and decisive second run-off election on Thursday, local media reported on Friday.According to results in 30 of the country's 200 constituencies, Kufuor is leading Mills in three-quarters of the constituencies where ballots have already declared, said the report. The final and official results of the run-off are expected within 72 hours after the vote. Seven candidates including Kufuor and Mills contested for the presidency in Ghana's post-Rawlings elections on December 7 after the outgoing President Jerry Rawlings bowed to step down after two-decade-long rule in the west African country. However, neither Kufuor nor Mills managed to win an outright victory in the first round of election with the former taking 48 percent of votes and the latter 44 percent. |
