A New Street Reconstruction Project Set Off in Beijing

The Jinbao Street Reconstruction Project, a key project for road network construction in Beijing, was set off on December 26. The project will help accelerate the traffic modernization in Beijing and the economic development in Eastern City District.

The avenue, 1430m long and 40m wide, covers 22.33 hectares involving an area starting from Nanxiaojie inside the Chaoyangmen Gate in the east, to Dongdan Beidajie on the west, and with Dongtangzi Lane to the south while adjacent the Ganmian Alleyway at the north with the buildings in the area covering a total floor space of 3550,000 square meters. With a total investment of RMB 4 billion yuan, the project will help improve thoroughly the living conditions for the 3,800 families, broaden the bottleneck to Wangfujing Business Center, improve traffic conditions in Dongdan area, and push ahead the economic development in Wangfujing and Dongdan areas.

Implemented by Beijing Eastern City District government and Fu Wah International (HK), the project, with the Beijing General Municipal Engineering Co. in charge of construction, will be brought to completion by August 2001.

Beijing Municipal government pays great attention to this project and emphasizes that effective measure must be taken to save and protect traditional and historical sites and cultural relics. Therefore, Beijing Eastern City District government and Fu Wah Group adjusted many a time the practical plan and took active measures for saving cultural relics in the area.
