New Yangtze Bridge Opens to Traffic in Chongqing

A new bridge across the Yangtze River was completed Friday in the Chongqing Municipality in southwest China.

According to a local traffic official, the new bridge, called E'gongyan Bridge, is the eighth Yangtze River bridge in the city.

The total length of the compound bridge is 7.3 kilometers. This includes three intersections, two fly-overs and a 1,022-meter long main bridge which crosses over the river at Xiejiawan.

The steel suspension bridge is 35.5 meter wide with six lanes and a designed speed of 80 kmph.

The bridge can handle an average traffic flow of 65,000 motor vehicles per day.
