India Seeks Special Visa from WTOIndia Friday asked the World Trade Organization (WTO) to introduce special visas for specialized Indian professionals to facilitate their entry with adequate market access, according to an official press release issued December 29.The proposal on liberalization of the movement of professionals under the General Agreement on Trade in Services under the WTO called for possible new strategies and approaches to achieve meaningful liberalization in this area which New Delhi said is of primary importance to India. India, in its proposal, sought uniform definitions and coverage of broader service personnel categories as well as enlargement of horizontal commitments to include a specific category of individual professionals, the release added. On administrative procedures relating to visa and work permits, India said that member countries should ensure a more transparent and objective implementation of their regimes. Temporary service providers should be separated from permanent labor flows and this could be achieved either by introducing special visa for categories of personnel covered by the commitments undertaken by member countries or temporary movement which was simpler and faster, the proposal said.
