New Wholesale Market to Boost Flower Trade in Guangzhou

A flower expo park, the only national-level flower wholesale market in China, opened Thursday in this capital city of Guangdong Province.

More than 100 big Chinese and foreign companies engaged in the flower and horticulture trade have initiated their business in the 14-hectare park, which consists of a demonstration zone, a flower culture square, an IT service district, a garden and some 20 scenic spots.

As China's largest flower distribution center, Guangzhou, also known as the "city of flower," sells around 150 million cut flowers every year to flower markets all over the country.

The municipal government of Guangzhou will work to build the new expo park into a key flower center for trade, exhibition, scientific research and information service in China, according to local officials.

It is learned that a flower exposition is scheduled to be held in the park during the Spring Festival in late January next year, when rare flower species and stones, potted landscape and tropical fish will be on display.
