Russia to Repay Two Billion US Dollars to IMF In 2001

Russia is to repay US$2.07 billion in debt to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) next year, Interfax quoted sources from Russia's finance ministry Thursday.

The first repayment of about 116 million dollars is expected on January 5.

Russia has repaid a total of some 3.6 billion dollars to the IMF "with strict observation of the payment schedule" this year, the sources said.

The sources also noted that the final figure of this year's payments would be announced later, as the repayments were made in different currencies and the exchange rates have been changing during the year.

The last payment in 2000 was made on Thursday, December 28.
