China Expels Three LawmakersThe Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) declared Thursday the expulsion of three deputies to the NPC.They are Cong Fukui and Zhang Erchen from Hebei Province and Ke Jiaqing from the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Cong Fukui, 58, former deputy governor of Hebei Province, has allegedly asked for and accepted bribes, and engaged in serious economic crimes. Zhang, former mayor of the provincial capital city Shijiazhuang, is also suspected of committing major economic crimes. And, Ke Jiaqing, former head of Hepu County in Guangxi, was considered unqualified to be a NPC member for absence from his official duties. The NPC Standing Committee also approved the qualification of nine new deputies to the NPC, which has increased the total number of deputies to 2983.
