China's Top Legislator to Visit India
China's top legislator Li Peng will pay an official goodwill visit to India from January 9 to 16, 2001, at the invitation of Chairman Krishan Kant of India's Upper House of the Parliament and Speaker G.M.C. Balayogi of the House of the People.
This was announced by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue Thursday, December 28.
Zhang told a press conference that this is an exchange of another high-level visit between China and India following Chinese President Jiang Zemin's state visit to India in 1996 and Indian President Kocheril Raman Narayanan's visit to China in May 2000.
"The visit will further strengthen contacts between China and India and exchanges between China's National People's Congress (NPC) and India's parliament, enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples and promote continued healthy and stable development of good-neighborly relations and friendly cooperation between the two countries," she said.
