Taiwan People Parade for Taiwan Salvage

More than 30,000 people from various parts of Taiwan took to the streets in Taipei December 25 for a mammoth demonstration to salvage Taiwan.

Workers and students took the lead in the demonstration. At 10:00 am, a sea of people, with red strips of cloth bearing the words "Rescuing Taiwan" tied to their heads and flaunting slogans and banners bearing such words as "the rule of the 'son of Taiwan' has led to unemployment, the depression of all businesses, starving people filling the land, unemployment facing students before graduation". Local media estimate put the number of marchers at 20,000-30,000. During the demonstration, some protestors burnt the paper images of the leader of Taiwan and some students even gave performance mocking the authorities.

They also published an open letter, charging that in the past half year since the Democratic Progressive Party came to power, society and economy have been going downhill due to the incompetence of the Taiwan authorities and the Taiwanese are all living a hard life. They can no longer bear the disastrous conditions and so they have to take action to rescue Taiwan from such unbearable circumstance.

Many protesters came from the southern part of the island. The demonstration lasted for about two and a half hours.

On the same day, some people's organizations also launched protest march designed to "end Taiwan's political chaos".
