NSB Official Urges Reform on Statistical System

The current statistical system will undergo structural adjustments to echo the nation's overall economic reshuffle, said Zhu Zhixin, director of National Statistics Bureau (NSB).

We should establish or perfect the statistical system, which can fully and accurately reflect structural adjustment, such as setting up statistic system in the sectors of service, privately-owned economy and some emerging industries, Zhu said.

For those failing to adapt to structural adjustment, reform is definitely urgent. Some statistics indices should be abrogated for they no longer have any use-value in view of socialist market economic system.

Zhu said that statistical system innovation is a must because the current statistical system is very feeble in combating the disturbances. It can not offer better protection to statistic institutions and statistics investigation, statistics report and the supervision on statistics work can neither meet the diversified requirements of statistics information nor coordinate with the objectivity of statistics information collection and high efficiency in its operation.

Zhu emphasized that we should strengthen construction of a judicial system for making statistics. He said that the statistics law shall be enforced nationwide in the second and third quarters of next year. For those who abuse power to illegally intervene in statistics data, especially for those who seek political status and fame by using false data to angle for economic benefits, no matter whichever position, whatever department and whoever they may be shall be investigated to the end and exposed to the public in order to set a rein on those law breakers, thereby safeguarding the solemnity and dignity of the statistics law.
