Number of Passengers to Macao SAR Hits Record

Passenger arrivals to China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) by means of marine, land and air routes reached 8.35 million from January to November this year, an increase of 22.8 percent over the same period last year.

The number of passengers had already exceeded the year-long figure of 8.15 million in 1996, the latest figures from the Statistics and Census Services of the Macao SAR government show.

Among the passengers, those from China's Hong Kong SAR, the inland areas and Taiwan and the Republic of Korea showed high growth rates.

In November, the number of passengers was more than 731,387, an increase of 11.5 percent over the same month of 1999. Those coming from the Hong Kong SAR and the inland areas of China accounted for 49.3 percent and 26.7 percent respectively.
