Guangdong Cracks Down on Illegal Publications

South China's Guangdong Province has confiscated 9.02 million illegal books and 56.43 million illegal audio-video and electronic publications over the first ten months of this year.

Li Lanfang, deputy governor of Guangdong, said at a telephone conference Wednesday that the province has made great efforts in the campaign against illegal, pirated and pornographic publications.

To date, officials have handled hundreds of illegal printing cases and seized 20 million illegal CDs and VCDs.

At the same time, local customs police have smashed a series of major smuggling cases, seized nearly 20 pirated and pornographic CDs and VCDs.

The illegal publications include pornographic and superstitious material such as illegal Falun Gong books.
