Beijing Hi-tech Projects Attract 1 Bln Yuan of Investment

Contracts involving six local and overseas-funded high-tech enterprises to invest some 1.2 billion yuan (US$144.6 million) on six projects for Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone were signed Tuesday.

The six projects include a bio-photon research center and a computer hardware research, development and production base.

The annual production value of the projects, which covers some 210,000 square meters, is expected to reach 3.2 billion yuan (US$386 million).

Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone, covering an area of 42 square km, assembles a large number of foreign- invested firms and has grown rapidly since its founding in August of 1994.

As of November this year, 782 enterprises with a total investment of US$2.7 billion have settled in the zone. Of these enterprises, 25 are among the world's top 500.

According to statistics, the total Gross Domestic Product and export value of the enterprises in the zone between January and November this year was 2.2 billion yuan (US$265 million) and US$100 million respectively, up 83 percent and 121 percent over the same period last year.
