Authorities Tighten Noose Around Fake ProductsIndustrial and commercial authorities at various levels in China will continue to crack down on fake products during the New Year Festival and the Spring Festival to ensure good market order.Mu Jianhua, director of the department in charge of consumer's rights under the State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC), claimed that the country's on-going campaign against fake products has achieved remarkable results. A total of 1.36 billion yuan worth of fake goods had been confiscated in over 40,000 cases by December 15, the paper quoted sources from SAIC as saying. Counterfeit products fall into over 70 categories, ranging from food, drugs, drinks and tobacco to automobile parts, steel and household appliances. A total of 5,642 manufacturers and stores producing and selling such goods have been closed down over the past two months. In east China's Zhejiang province alone, where criminal activities involving the production of fake goods are more rampant than in most other places, local authorities confiscated 49.7 million yuan worth of fake goods. |
