France Releases Suspected German TerroristFrance has released a suspected German terrorist who had been detained since 1996 in France for a 1982 bombing attack at Champs-Elysees in Paris against a conservative Arab weekly magazine, reported Agence France-Presse Tuesday.Christa Margot Frohlich, 58, was released from her jail in the province of Essonne near Paris at the end of last week at the order of French anti-terrorist judge Jean-Louis Bruguiere. Arrested in Rome in November 1996, she was extradited to France under accusation of "complicity of assassination and voluntary destruction by explosives which brought about death" and " association with wrongdoers in relation with a terrorist enterprise." Frohlich denied having participated in a bombing attack on Al Watan Al Arabi on April 22, 1982, in which one was killed and 63 were injured. Venezuelan terrorist Ilitch Ramirez Sanchez, alias "Carlos," who was arrested in Sudan by French secret agents in 1994, was suspected to have ordered the attack. The French judicial authorities have never opened trial of Frohlich because of lack of evidence. |
