China Sets up First Radio, TV, Film Group

China's first electronic media group -- the Hunan Radio, TV and Film Group declared its birth Wednesday in Changsha, capital of Central China's Hunan Province.

The group has total assets of three billion yuan (US$361 million), consisting of seven TV channels, four radio stations, print media like the Hunan Radio and TV Guide, websites and other visual and audio studios, according to Wei Wenbin, president of the group.

The new group will reform its old operational system to meet the challenges from the domestic market and from future foreign competitors after China's entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO), Wen said.

Media experts said the founding of the group is in line with international trends and will promote more professional and market-oriented operation and performance of electronic media in the country.
