South China City to Develop Information Industry

The government of Jiangmen in South China's Guangdong Province signed a series of agreements

with universities and high-tech companies Tuesday in Beijing.

The agreements include projects to train professionals for Jiangmen, to build an Internet Data Center (IDC) in the city, and to build an e-education network.

Jiang Jin, mayor of the city, said at Tuesday's press conference that the agreements will help his city upgrade traditional industries and promote economic and social development.

Jiangmen is famous as home for overseas Chinese. Over the years, the city has witnessed rapid economic growth. In September of this year, it was chosen as a trial city to promote economic development through information technology in the country.
