China Trial Operates First Elevated Rail

Shanghai Mingzhu elevated railway, China's first, will be put into trial operation in this largest industrial and commercial city Tuesday.

The first phase of the 25-kilometer-long rail starts at Caohejing in Xuhui District and ends in the town of Jiangwan in Hongkou District with 19 stops.

It only takes people one hour to travel from the south of the city to the north, while in the past, traffic services along the route was quite inconvenient.

The line will bring total length of urban transit railways in Shanghai to 65 kilometers, which is the longest among other cities in China.
