Tibet Bends on Advantages in Many Areas
Great efforts are now being made at various levels throughout Tibet Autonomous Region in order to be up with a well-developed plateau economy, an edge and enhanced competitiveness in many aspects of its own.
Richly endowed with natural resources, Tibet enjoys great potentials to exploit. For a new Tibet a restructuring of economy is to be made. Along with the fight to push ahead with strategic goals for Western China's development during the 10th Five-year Plan years 2001-2005, it sees to it that a multiple-line development program is to be launched on a regional scale.
As special to the Tibetan plateau, plateau tourism, Tibetan medicine, bio-production, green beverages, farm produce processing, livestock products and ethnic arts and crafts form the major lines pivotal to Tibet's economic development.
A pillar to Tibet's economy, plateau tourism is to be prioritized. Tourism infrastructure construction, that of personnel and training of guides, a raise of service quality and opening up new tourism routes and scenic spots to turn the "roof of the world" into an international tourism "Mecca" have become all necessary on the agenda to give a boost to Tibet's development.
Sources also say that Tibet has decided to build itself into the largest national production, research and development base of Tibetan medicine by making most of its rich medicine resources in the way best cures will be provided for problematic and a number of other difficult diseases in China.
