Capital Steel to Construct Micro-Electronic Base in 10 Years
Two 8-inch chip production lines, part of the micro-electronic base invested by Capital Steel (Shougang), with up-to-date technology introduced, initiating the construction of Badachu Park, formally kicked off construction on December 20 at Capital Steel in Beijing.
Since last year, Capital Steel carried out a restructuring of production by developing such technology-oriented non-steel manufacturing production lines as of chips, computer, robots, automobile equipment and especially large-storage CD.
In the first half of this year, non-steel profits for the first time exceeded those from steel and iron in Capital Steel Group. By its current 6-inch production line it will have a double output coming year, or a monthly average of some 30 thousand chips. Another four to six production lines will be set up in 2004 and 2006, with each to have a production capacity of 20 to 30 thousand chips per month. Capital Steel has planned to invest US $10 billion within next 10 years to build six to eight 8-inch or 12-inch production lines for a monthly yield of 240 to 300 thousand chips and a factory for encapsulating and testing. To be in brief, Capital Steel will have a micro-electronics base as the largest in north China.
The above two product lines will be respectively put into operation in the second half of 2002 and 2003.
