Beijing Mapped out Five Emphases in Economic Work
The Beijing Economic Working Conference was held in the Beijing Conference Center from December 21 to 23.
Jia Qinglin, mayor of Beijing, summarized the city's economic work in the year 2000, analyzed the present economic situation and put forward an overall requirement, major tasks and important issues for the economic work in the coming year.
Jia said that next year will see the stresses of economic work to be laid on the following five issues:
--- Actively implementing the strategic adjustments of the current economic structure with high and new technological industry as its core;
--Conscientiously improving the people's living standard in cities and villages with rebuilding dangerous and old houses as a breakthrough;
--Accelerating modernization process with the bid for the 2008 Olympic Games as a new driving force;
--Deepening reform and accelerating the opening-up with China's access into the WTO as the turning point;
--Promoting social stability and overall development with the emphasis to be placed on strengthening social administration.
