Venezuela's First Woman Vice President Appointed

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Sunday appointed Adina Bastidas, an economist, as the country's first woman vice president.

Bastidas, a graduate of the Central University of Venezuela, has been in Washington D.C. as Venezuela's representative to the Interamerican Development Bank.

Shortly after her appointment, Bastidas pledged efforts to deepen the economic and social reforms in the country.

Bastidas replaces Isaias Rodriguez, who was chosen last week by congress as the attorney general. Rodriguez will officially resign as vice president on Tuesday.
