New Website of China's Foreign Ministry Launched

The Phase II upgrading of the website of Ministry of Foreign Affairs was concluded a few days ago, which basically hit the target of establishing a web publicity and administration system of the Ministry and its overseas missions. On December 25, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs officially launched the new website.

According to Zhu Bangzao, Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the website was established in July 1998 and renovated in October 1999. The second, also latest upgrading was a comprehensive one. The new website is quite fashionable, fresh, with a more reasonable structure and richer resources. It consists of five parts:The Ministry, Policy, Regions , Resources , and Services and more than 10 million bytes of background and constantly updated information.

As a window of public diplomacy for the Ministry, the new website possesses an enhanced interactive feature, focusing on rendering service to the public. It has taken up the functions, such asMeet the diplomats online,On-line Comment andNews Subscription. It will also invite Chinese diplomats to have on-line dialogue with the public on China s diplomacy and international issues, ask visitors to comment on China's foreign policy, thus allowing the public to be involved more than ever in China's diplomacy.

In order to support more effectively the web publicity work of China's diplomatic missions abroad, the Ministry, while upgrading its own website, have also developed an integrated Internet information publishing and administration system, which is a browser-based shared information publishing platform. The overseas missions can, through the shared central database and automatic web-page-building software, administrate and maintain their respective websites. The Ministry provides on-line technical support through the same system and coordinates between the various missions. The new system is a built structure that can be flexible at the same time, allowing broad space for the personalized development of all the websites within. At present, the Ministry is covering its overseas missions with the same system so as to complete the integrated Internet publicity network of the Ministry and the missions abroad.

It has been learnt that the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in charge of the web publicity work of the Ministry and the overseas missions and it has set a web office under it for this end. The Information Department maintains the website on a daily basis, updating and enriching the content meticulously. Major and breaking diplomatic news is posted in a timely way, and background information is steadily expanding. These efforts have enabled the Foreign Ministrys website: http://www.fmprc.gov.cn to find its place among the leading and most influential government-run websites both at home and abroad. Chinese and foreign visitors recommend highly the website and regard it as the authoritative site of China s diplomacy with rich information and a friendly environment to work in.
